Richard Ellis Tate was the son of Charles Cole Tate and Mary Amelia Prideaux 

Studio portrait of 1668 Pvt Richard Ellis Tate and his mother Mary Amelia Tate of Katandra, Vic, Enlisted on 9th March 1916 and was assigned to the 1st Reinforcements, 37th Battalion. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ascanius on 27th November 1916.
He was later promoted to Corporal. He was killed in action on 4th October 1917 at Passchendaele, Belguim, aged 26 years.

In the Numurkah Leader thursday 17th December there is a small notice as follows

Much sympathy is felt for Mr & Mrs Charles Tate of Katandra who have recently suffered the loss of thier infant (Twin) son, aged 2 years. The remains were interred at the Katandra Cemetery.
