Family Memories

Eva Winafred was born on 11 September 1920, the daughter of Charles Henry CREIGHTON, occupation farmer (born 10 January 1889 in Sydney to Charles and Elizabeth CREIGHTON and died 8th May 1940 at Grafton, NSW (Buried in the Methodist Section K13)) and Beatrice Amanda GREEN (born 25 November 1893 at Cowper (Ulmarra) NSW  2nd child (of 7) to parents, Archibald GREEN (born 9 August 1854 in Liverpool Reach, NSW son of John GREEN (1800-1869) and Sarah DORRINGTON (1813-1885) and died 30 January 1935 at Grafton NSW) and Sarah Emily GREEN (1875-1960). Beatrice died at Grafton on 31 August 1936 and is buried in the Methodist Section K14.

Charles CREIGHTON and Beatrice GREEN married on 15 January 1914 and had about 15 children, including Eva.

Eva was about 16 when her mother died and about 20 when her father died.  At age 24 Eva had a baby girl in November 1944 and was married in August 1945. Eva (spinister, occupation home duties, usual place of residence 25 Womerah Avenue Darlinghurst, Sydney NSW) married Stephen JOHNSON on 21 August 1945 at The Registrar General's Office, Sydney NSW.  Stephen JOHNSON (bachelor), aged 32. His occupation was listed as Royal Navy and his usual place of residence was 99 Linden Avenue, Willesden London, England. Stephen was the son of Charles JOHNSON (miner) and Zillah BORTH (both deceased at time of Stephen's marriage).  Stephen JOHNSON was born at Prescot, Lancashire, England. She worked in a fish and chip shop in Grafton NSW.  While working as a waitress, Eva met her second husband, Lemuel Batey FORD who was driving trucks.

Lemuel FORD'S divorce from his first wife Eileen McCONNELL was finalised on 20 August 1954, while living at Rochester.  Eva and her daughter came to live with Lem and his family at Rochester in about 1955. In 1956, Lem, Eva and  family had moved to the farm at Katamatite, Victoria.

Eva's marriage to Stephen JOHNSON was dissolved in Victoria, Australia on 21 February 1958, and when Eva was 41 (1961/62) she married Lem FORD at Melbourne, Victoria.

After Lem retired from farming, Lem and Eva moved into Shepparton, by then they had a total of 18 grand-children. Lem enjoyed gardening and helping his son on the farm and Eva enjoyed her craft which included making leather handbags and growing orchids.

After Lem's death on 31 December 1997, Eva moved to a nursing home in Finley, NSW where she passed away in 2005 aged 84.
