The Fords of Cheshire referred to in this website are the Ancestors of Thomas FORD, and commences at Thomas's Great Grandfather John FORD born 1708 (date not confirmed). This Ford Family lived in the North East of Cheshire and is traced to the Mobberley Parish. In the old parish records it states that some of the burials for this family were at "All Saints Mobberley", but  a Church of that name at that time cannot be found and would most likely was a transcription error and would probably be St Wilfred's Mobberley.

The Ford's were farmers, though according to the baptismal details registered when John & Martha Ford's children were christened, his occupation was a tailor (spelt "taylor"). At this time in Cheshire, rural households drew on multiple incomes and it was common for farmers to also be tailors or other tradespeople.

John & Martha lived near Mobberley many of their descendants stayed in the area and lived at The Hough, Bollin Fee, Great Warford, Alderley and Wilmslow. Many are buried at Mobberley and St Barthomews, Wilmslow, Cheshire, England.

We would be delighted to hear from any Ford descendant still living in these areas today that may wish to assist in contributing to this website.

Thomas's Grandfather Stephen FORD was born at Great Warford in 1742 and was buried at "All Saints Mobberley" in 1812.

Thomas's father Joseph FORD was born in 1786 at Alderley and died at Wilmslow in 1859.  On 29 January 1807 he married Elizabeth (Betty) BRACEGIRDLE (1789-1862).
It is easy to confuse him with another Joseph FORD born 1791 at Prestbury who married Elizabeth (Betty) HOUGH at Prestbury on 30 October 1815. Please click here for details of the wrong Joseph & Elizabeth (Betty) FORD.

Thomas Ford was born approx 1825 to 1827 and baptised on 24 June 1827

His siblings were Hannah, Mary, Eliza, John, Joseph, ElizabethSarah, Ann and John.

In 1846, Thomas married Eliza Ann Bate at Manchester Cathedral England.

In 1858, Thomas & Eliza immigrated to Australia, (Please click on the link to Thomas & Eliza on the side menu for more information on this couple and their descendants - The Fords of Katandra).

Thomas's parents and siblings remained at The Hough Bollin Fee, Wilmslow, Cheshire and their graves can be found at St Barthomew's Wilmslow, Cheshire. In the Church of England Section, Plot D, Row J number 21 is a large flat headstone with the following inscription:
