Family Memories

Les was a farmer and motor mechanic doing mechanical repairs for farmers on their tractors and headers.  He had a swing saw which he used to fell trees, length them and then cut them up to sell as fence posts and fire wood.

At the age of 19 Les suffered from Rheumatic Fever which damaged the valve in his heart.

After he was married he worked for Arthur Peters in 1947, some years later he sold the garage at the request of his father who had failing health and need assistance to run the farm at "Orange Grove" Youanmite, after organising the sale of the garage and before Les took over the farm, his father died.  Walter's daughters insisted the farm be sold and Les bought the family home and 14 acres off his sisters where they ran a poultry farm.  He also worked for Mick Mead at the Katamatite Engineering Works.

At the age of 39 Les's health failed due to the leaking valves in his heart and he died on 6th October 1956 at the Yarrawonga Hospital.  He is buried at the Katandra Cemetery.
