Family Memories

William Naisby LAWSON was born abt 1857 in Sunderland the son of Joseph LAWSON and Margaret Ann NAISBY.  This couple married on 28 June 1857 at St Michaels Church, Bishopwearsmouth, Durham, England.

Joseph LAWSON was the son of William LAWSON and Sarah PROCTOR (who married abt 1821) and his siblings were Mary and Alice.

Margaret Ann NAISBY was born abt 1836 daughter of Francis NAISBY and Jane SWINBURN who married abt 1832 at Monkwearmouth, Durham.

Joseph LAWSON and his wife Margaret LAWSON (nee NAISBY) migrated to Australia with their two children - William Naisby LAWSON and his sister Alice Jane LAWSON who was born abt 1860 at Bishopwearmouth, the second child Sarah Jane did not survive. A fourth child, Margaret Annie, was born in Collingwood, Victoria, Australia, Joseph's occupation is recorded as "master?".

William Naisby LAWSON (aged 30) married Lavinia Maria FORD in 1887.

William competed in Rifle shooting and can be found in the newspapers from 1887 to 1900 competing in events, with this one appearing in 1901.

 

THE ARGUS WEDNESDAY 3 JULY 1901

 -Captain W. Lawson, of the Katandra Rifle Club, is in a precarious state of health on account of a severe attack of pleurisy. Captain Lawson was a leading marksman a few years ago.
