Family Memories

Charles Kershaw WORRALL is the third child of William WORRALL and Mary/Catherine WORRALL. He was born in Liverpool,
Lancashire in 1827.  His eldest sister Ann WORRALL married Joseph FORD, farmer of Wilmslow, Cheshire (brother to
Thomas John FORD. When Charles' sister, Catharine WORRALL was baptised on 18th April 1824 St Peter, Liverpool,
Lancashire, England, the parents were listed as William Worrall & Mary WORRALL

     Abode: Peter Lane
    Occupation: Shipwright
    Baptised by: P. Bulmer Curate
    Register: Baptisms 1823 - 1825, Page 243, Entry 1936
    Source: LDS Film 1656418

There is evidence of Charles's father voting in the Liverpool Poll Book 1832 as described below:

The Field/Column Headings are as follows:Surname: Forename(s): Occupation: Address: District: Politics: Status

WORRALL,WILLIAM,SHIPWRIGHT,RILEY'S GARDEN,LIVERPOOL,S & D,BGS/FMN. The Liverpool Poll book shows the vote
of Ann's father in the 1832 election. So Ann's father William must have died betweed 1832 and the census of 1841.

The 1841 Liverpool census listed Charles aged 15, occupation - Clerk living at Ann WORRALL aged 20 living at 12 Ryley
Gardens Liverpool with his mother Mary aged 49, grandmother Ann, aged 79, sister Ann WORRALL aged 20, brother Thomas,
aged 11 and sister Mary aged 12. They may have let rooms as also listed at the same address are Roleston JOHNSON,
aged 20, Mariner, George BURROUGH, aged 20, pilot and William SWINDLEY, aged 30, farmer.

On 31 October 1850, at full age, Charles Kershaw WORRALL married Mary Margaret Lyall COLE at Liverpool St Bride.
Mary's father is listed as Thomas COLE (deceased).  Charles' father William WORRALL was also listed as deceased.

Charles was living at Smith St Kirkdale in 1850. Both fathers were already deceased. Unfortunately in Oct/Nov/Dec 1853,
his wife Mary Margaret Lyall WORRALL died (Vol 8B 198)

On 20 September 1859 at age 33, Charles Kershaw WORRALL married again to Hannah Mary WILSON, age 23 (daughter
of Thomas WILSON and Hannah WILSON (nee FORD) sister of Thomas John FORD. The marriage was witnessed by John
GODFREY (brother-in-law) and S A Wilson (presumably Sarah Ann WILSON (Hannah's sister).

The 1861 census, Litherland, Lancashire shows Charles Kershaw WORRALL, inn keeper aged 34 living at Sefton Road Hotel,
Liverpool with his wife Hannah, aged 24, his son Harry M, aged 4 months, his mother in law Hannah WILSON (nee FORD)
Aged 52 and servant Mary A Radcliffe, aged 15.

The 1871 census shows Charles Kershaw WORRALL age 44 and Anna (Hannah) M WORRALL aged 34 (nee WILSON)
living at Litherland, Lancashire, with their 10 year old son Harry M WORRALL and Hannah's mother, Hannah WILSON aged 60,
and Sarah A WORRALL aged 27 (Charles's sister-in-law).

Charles Kershaw WORRALL died on 11 April 1877 at Liverpool, Lancashire, England and his probate date is 4 June 1877.

The family is in possession of the Family Bible belonging to Charles Kershaw WORRALL and Hannah Mary WORRALL.
This Bible is in very good condition with gold leaf edges, ribbed with embossed chalice on front and read covers it has
their name plate on the inside front cover. There is one hand written entry recording a baptism of John Arthur Hibble

Family Memories

Hannah Mary WILSON born 1836 was the second child of Thomas WILSON and Hannah WILSON (nee FORD). Her parents -Thomas and Hannah WILSON married on 15 June 1830 in Alderley, Cheshire. For this couple, we  have located 1 son and 3 daughters (including Hannah Mary WILSON) to date.

1. Charles Wilson, baptised 13th February 1831 at Wilmslow, Cheshire, England to Thomas and Hannah WILSON, address Hough, Cheshire England. Charles may have married a Margaret JAMES on 26 March 1854 at St George Everton, Lancashire (this is still to be confirmed).

2. Hannah Mary WILSON was baptised on 27 November 1836 at  Collegiate Manchester (Now Manchester Cathedral) daughter of Thomas WILSON (coachman) and Hannah WILSON,  Abode: Chortlon up Medlock.  Hannah Mary  WILSON married Charles Kershaw WORRALL on 20th September 1859 at Liverpool, Lancashire.

3. Elizabeth WILSON is listed as 2 months old on the 1841 census, no other record found at this stage, but it is possible she died as an infant (there is a Elizabeth WILSON, 15 months buried on 3 February 1842 at St Peters Liverpool)

4. Sarah WILSON born 1844 at Liverpool Lancashire.  On the 1861 census, Sarah A WILSON is staying with her aunt Sarah BOOTH (nee FORD) at Church Street Bollin Fee, Cheshire.  She is listed as a visitor, unmarried, aged 17, assisting in the shop. Her birth place is listed as Manchester. She married John Cowieson BRADSHAW in Liverpool in 1877. Her nephew Harry Myddleton WORRALL (son of Hannah Mary WORRALL (nee WILSON) was one of the witnesses.

Hannah Mary WILSON and her parents Hannah WILSON (nee FORD) and Thomas WILSON and siblings can be found on the 1841 census living at Handforth Cum Borden, Cheadle, Macclesfield, Stockport, Cheshire England, details as follows:

Thomas WILSON, age 35, Police Officer
Hannah WILSON, age 30
Charles WILSON, age 8
Hannah WILSON, age 4
Elizabeth WILSON, aged 2 months
Sarah UNSWORTH, aged 2

The 1851 census finds the family at Ardwick, St Silas, Manchester, Lancashire, England living at 44 Chapelfied Road.
Thomas WILSON Head Married aged 46 occupation Railway Guard, born Alderley Cheshire
Hannah WILSON, wife, Married aged 42, born Wilmslow, Cheshire
Harriet WILSON, daugther, unmarried aged 14, scholar born Manchester, Lancashire (this we assume is Hannah)
Sarah Ann WILSON, daugther, aged 7, scholar, born Lancashire.

Some where between the 1851 census and 1861 census, Hannah's father disappears. Hannah WILSON (nee FORD) is no longer listed with her husband Thomas WILSON (he has either died or left, his occupation is listed as station master on his children's marriage certificates in 1859 & 1877, he is not noted as deceased). In the 1861 census, Hannah Mary WORRALL (nee WILSON) is listed with her husband Charles Kershaw WORRALL and their 4 month old son, Harry M.  Her mother, Hannah WILSON (nee FORD) also lives with her at Litherland, Lancashire and is listed again at this address in the 1871 census (see below).

Hannah WORRALL'S mother Hannah WILSON (nee FORD) died on 5 December 1871, aged 63 and is buried in the same cemetery as her parents and siblings at St Batholomew, Wilmslow, Cheshire.
